LLPTI Laboratory services, Providing Quality testing services to the leather & Leather products sector of Ethiopia.
  • The laboratory wing of the institute was constituted with the following main objectives:-
  • To render technical services to its customers through testing and certification for their products, poised to satisfy their export and domestic market clients.
  • To advice technical issues pertaining to quality and standards problems related to their products and materials.
  • To manage and upgrade the laboratory to instill quality systems.
  • Per international regulations (ISO/IEC 17025:2005)
  • To assist in the research and development activities in the field of leather and leather products using the laboratory facilities.
  • To assist in the technical process and consultancy services that is required by the industries.
  • To maintain records and control the documentations which are the essential requirements for the functioning of the laboratory services to the customers.
  • To assist the institute LLPTI in the training deliveries too its trainers, where the laboratory system is concerned.
  • To lease with the material quality institution QSAE, which is the central contact for the ISO 9001:2005 and flows its rules regulations and governance and further extend its calibrations services.
The above stated obligations for the laboratory calls for the development of QUALITY MANUAL of the LIDI LABORATORY, which is trains to follow ISO/IEC 17025:2005 directorate given under “General requirement for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories”. International standard second edition 2005-05-15(Reference number ISO/IEC 17025:2005(E)).

In order to perform its tasks and responsibilities as per laid down objectives, The laboratories must have ACCREDATION. This means that the laboratory should have the accrediting rights on specific tasks, which will be accepted internationally. This is given by internationally recognized body, called accrediting body, who manages, supervise and develops the capacity of the laboratory and after satisfying the rules and regulations governing the accreditation certifies the laboratory with accreditation rights...

In our case the laboratory had received extensive preparatory activities of its manpower training from Italy and Egypt, through the support of UNIDO and Italian Cooperation Agency obtained the accreditation rights from the accrediting Body, SANAS of South Africa,

The granting of accreditation certificate was performed in a colorful ceremony on June 13,2009 at Hilton Hotel Addis Ababa in the presence of many dignitaries ,which includes H.E Ato Tadesse Haile, State Minister of Trade & Industry, H.E Dr Raffaelle de Lutio, Ambassador of Italy , Dr. David Tommy UNIDO representative and director of the region , Mr .Gorgio Sparaci, Director of Italian Cooperation Office, Mr.Mpho Phaioane, Senior Manager of South African National Accreditation System (SANAS) and Mrs. Aurelia Calabro, Senior Industrial Development Officer, UNIDO.
