Leather Industry Development Institute’s research council evaluated the progress of 7 researches
October 29, 2021: The institute’s research council evaluated the progress of 7 researches launched in 2020 and 2021 From September 30 - October 13, 2021. Out of the 7 researches, 6 of the researches were evaluated because one of the researches was aborted due to the researcher went abroad for PhD programme.
Research Title and Researchers are:- 1. Assessing the impact of process technology on the strength performance of Selected Ethiopian Finished leather by Belay Meles & Aster Mekasha, 2. Design And Manufacturing De-wooling Machine by Nigussu Temesgane & Abegaz Alemu, 3. Extraction of Keratin Hydro-lysate from Tannery Wool Waste and Poultry Feather for Industrial Application of Leather and Textile Processing by Ashagrie Mengistu , Getaneh Andualem, .Dr. Mulatu Kassie & Angesom Hagos, 4. Assessing process and post-consumer footwear waste management in footwear industry by Ephrem Tilahun & Tsehaynesh Engida 5. Developing Composite Material from finished Leather Scrap and Papyrus Fiber for Leather Goods Reinforcement by Daniel Alemayehu, Biniyam Abdisa & Berhanu Telay (Dr.) 6. Leather Product Diversification by Designing and Developing Multi-Functional Music Instrument Bag by Zeyin Mohammed, Getaneh Kifle, Tarekegn Bekele, Ashenafi Yifru & Sisay Abebe
All Research progress report was presented by the researchers and Provision of approved budget and delay in material procurement were presented as challenges for not performing up to the mark. During the presentation Challenges faced, Lessons learnt, Support required & Future plan was discussed & way forward was given for successful completion of the researches.
Finally, the council recommended that timely provision of approved budget for each research project. The top management may further look for options for external budget sources to ease budget constraints in the future.
